What’s the best season of the whole year?
Well, my favorite season is definitely winter, ‘cause there are so many interesting things I could do, like skating, skiing, snow fighting, making a snowman and things like that. Besides, winter vacation is pretty long, much longer than my summer vacation.
What do people normally in that season?
Um… For starters, there are various sports we can do. Our hometown has the largest ski resort in China, there we could go skating, skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing. Besides, during winter, we like to eat hot pot, ‘cause it can keep us warm in the cold weather, and it’s pretty convenient, I mean, we just need to put all the ingredients in the pot, and a few minutes later, we are ready to eat.
What's the weather usually like in your country 【or, your hometown】?
Well, there are four distinct seasons in my hometown, in summer, it’s pretty hot, sometimes muggy, and in winter, it can be freezing cold. During spring and autumn, it’s quite cool and windy.
Would you say the weather in your hometown is suitable for working 【or studying】?
Um… to be honest, not really, ‘cause in winter, the weather can be really harsh, I mean, the temperature can be really low, like sometimes 30 degrees below zero. And it snows a lot, which makes the road pretty slippery. During winter, the number of traffic accidents will increase because sometimes cars can be out of control on those icy roads.
Would you like to move to a place with different weather?
Um… well, no. Although winter in my hometown can be unpleasantly cold, I get to do tons of thrilling outdoor activities. And I would really miss the ice and snow if I moved to a place that’s warm and has sunshine all year round.
What season 【or weather】 do you think is most suitable for work and/or study?
I guess it must be spring or autumn, ‘cause summer can be really hot, and people will be in no mood for work or study. And the transportation in winter can be a problem, like I said earlier.
雅思口语重要的谈话话题
Describe an important conversation.
You should say:
when it was
who was in the conversation
what it is about
and explain why it is important.
When I was a kid, I was hardly a model student. I had an older brother who was a bit of a rebel, he’d go out drinking and smoking and causing trouble, and I guess some of his bad behaviour rubbed off on me.
I can remember when I was a teenager, I must have been around 17, I had taken my university entrance exam but my grades were dismal. My parents were distraught, they had had such high hopes for me and I remember my mum being in floods of tears. My dad sat me down and we had a long conversation about my future and the direction I was heading in. He calmly told me I had a second chance to repeat the test and make my family proud. He said that I should take a long, hard look at myself and picture where I wanted to be in 10 years time.
At first I dug in my heels, but eventually my father’s words sank in and I realised I needed to knuckle down and study. I hit the books hard and over the course of the year I was more and more prepared. In the end, I got a good grade and was able to attend university.
I feel like that was one of the most important conversations I’ve ever had. I knew that he was speaking from the heart and that I couldn’t disappoint him any longer. My dad’s words of wisdom were a real wake-up call and it turned out to be a major turning point in my life.
雅思口语喜欢的电影话题
Describe a film you enjoyed.
You should say:
what the film is
when and where you watched
what it is about
and explain why you enjoyed it.
I’m not a regular cinema-goer, I prefer the comfort and convenience of watching movies in my own home, where I can download them and view them on my TV. However, occasionally there is a film that I feel I must watch on the big screen, the most recent of which was Transformers 4: Age of Extinction.
It’s the newest film in the Transformers franchise, which is based on old toys that were made in the ‘80s. They tell the story of massive robots that can transform into different machines, like tanks or fire trucks, and fight battles on Earth. In this instalment, evil robots that look like dinosaurs, called Dinobots, battle it out against the good robots, called Autobots.
The film was released in the summer of 2014, the time of the year when a lot of big blockbusters are brought out because it’s the school holidays, so they can make more money. I chose to watch the film in a 3D IMAX cinema. Nothing beats the experience of seeing a big budget movie on a huge screen, with the characters popping out at you. The sound system at the cinema is also amazing, with surround sound making you feel like you’re in the centre of the action.
Although the story wasn’t all that great, I loved the action sequences and the special effects. Some of the film was also shot in China and the Chinese actress Li BingBing made an appearance, so even though it was a Hollywood movie, I could relate to it more easily.
雅思口语照片话题
Describe a photo or painting you like in your home.
You should say:
where and when the photo was taken or painted
which room it is in
what there are in the photo or painting
and explain why you like it.
Actually, I have a few paintings in my home. My girlfriend says it’s beginning to look like an art gallery! I guess you could call me a bit of an art-aholic, though I’m certainly no connoisseur.
By far my favourite piece is a large oil painting on canvas that I picked up on my travels in Bali. I had to roll it up to get it back to China and once I got home I had a bespoke frame made for it. It depicts a tree or plant of some sort, using an array of colours, from deep blues to vivid yellows. The image is very simple, being formed from a number of different coloured dots.
At the moment it is the centerpiece of my living room, takes pride of place on the main wall behind my sofa. There are other pieces of art in there, including some small statues and figurines, but they are eclipsed by the large oil painting, which truly dominates the room. Every guest we have visit passes comment on it, often complimenting its vibrant colours or simple aesthetic beauty.
For me personally, it’s a combination of all the things I have already mentioned. Plus, it reminds me of the places I have been and the things I have experienced on my trips abroad. The memories come flooding back every time l look at my picture. This is the primary reason I collect paintings and the reason I have more works of art than I do wall space!
