1 How did your parents choose your name?

To be truthful, I’m not sure how they chose it; I’ve never asked them. I suppose it was just a name that they both liked, and maybe they thought it suited me.

2 Does your name have any special meaning?

I think it might do, but I don’t know what that meaning is; I’ve never looked it up. Maybe I’ll google it later today; you’ve made me curious to find out!

3 Is your name common or unusual in your country?

Yes, it’s quite a common name. I remember that there were two other people with the same name as me in my class at school.

4 If you could change your name, would you?

Not at all, I definitely wouldn’t. My name is part of my identity now, and it would feel strange to suddenly change it. I don’t think my friends and family would like that either.

5 What is your 【full】 name? Does your name have any special meaning?

My full name is Nguyen Thi Hong. My parents gave me that name.

In English, Hong means “Pink” which is a very bright color. So I guess my parents wanted to have a cheerful and successful life.

1. What shows do old people and young people watch? 老人和年轻人各自看什么节目?

Oh, I guess old people, first of all, opt for news programs as only news lets them stay informed and up-to-date with what is going on in the area and in the world. They also like to watch all types of programs which help them get entertained and not feel lonely, I mean different talk and talent shows, cookery, programs and other programs about hobbies such as gardening, fishing and travelling. Elderly women also watch soap operas and dramas in order to involve themselves emotionally in something outside themselves while elderly men prefer to watch sporting events to expose themselves to things they enjoyed doing in their young years. I am not sure that young people watch TV these days as the majority of the young think that it's not very meaningful as it leaves people with less time for life, causes unrealistic expectations and is just unable to bring people any of the change they want in their life or in the world. So, I guess that even if young people watch TV, they opt only for entertainment programs like reality, talent and game shows, and maybe programs that feature holiday destinations and travel reviews as let them get a broader understanding of the world they live in.

2. What is the influence of foreign shows on the shows produced in your country? 外国节目对你们国家制作的节目有什么影响?

Well, to my mind, foreign shows have tremendous sway with TV shows made in my country as they provide our TV producers with the three most important TV show components, I mean great ideas, the format and interesting content. This influence can hardly be overestimated as altogether these three building blocks improve the quality of shows produced in my country and make them explode with audience activity massive numbers of engagement, is vital for our TV channels and the profit.

1. What are the different ways that people communicate with each other?

First and foremost, most people will communicate face to face. This can happen in their daily life when meeting someone in the middle of the road, during the class, in the shared kitchen with their roommates or when they take part in a group discussion.They will also use gestures and facial expression to help the listeners to understand their meaning when they travel to some foreign countries where the locals cannot speak English.With the advance in technology, video chat and conference can be easily achieved in many websites or application on the phone or ipad. If two people stay in a different place but want to talk through something more clearly, they can just take a video chat by keeping online and using the same application.

However, face to face communication cannot be achieved all the time. We sometimes need to discuss with a person, but we cannot reach them immediately. In this case, the first choice for most people is making a phone call, since modern people are normally take the phone with them all the time even when they go to the bathroom.Also, some new apps such as Wechat allow users to send audio message, which can facilitate communication and improve efficiency, because many people think typing words time-consuming and find it hard to express their meaning as well as they emotion clearly through just words.

In addition, many people are comfortable with the form of written communication. They will send letters or emails to their family members, friends and clients, because these forms of communication are more formal and be easily saved and retrieved anytime anywhere with a device and internet connection.Besides, someone may prefer writing blog online as a way to record their everyday life and share their experience with the readers. And this way seems to be more widely accepted for many celebrities because the famous people want to have a word to their fans directly and ordinary people are always curious about the private life of the celebrities.

For example, I often receive lots of unexpected calls from my parents even in the middle of a exam, and they call me sometimes just to make sure I have locked the doors before I left home this morning.They all like to arrange some social activities as a way to exchange information and meet their old friends. For example, my father goes fishing with his old friends each month, and goes hiking with his workmates every two weeks.Old people also like to discuss business on the dinner table, and in China, you know, people may drink a lot of wines and liquor in order to show respect to others.

Some activities need to be cancelled because of the rain as well, like some outdoor activities or some production procedures. What’s more, even the rain is usually good news to the crops, too much of it can be dangerous to them. If the things people grow have too much water than they need, they would wither and the farmers would suffer economically.

2. Can you give any examples of unusual weather in your hometown?

My hometown is Guangzhou, and it’s almost in the far south of China, so it is very warm even in the winter, and it never snows. But, it snowed last year and it was huge. Some people made a teeny tiny snowman on the hood of the car and took photos of it, which soon became meme on the internet. All the people from the north were saying that it was the smallest snowman they had ever seen. Anyway, we loved it.
