When do you usually have meals?

Well, like most people, I have meals three times a day, with the first one in the morning, around 8 o’clock, the following one at noon, about 12 o’clock, and the last one in the late afternoon, around 17 o’clock.

What is your favorite cuisine?

I am a big fan of hot pot, especially this very type called Chongqing hot pot, to which Sichuan pepper, also known as ‘prickly ash’, is added. A Chongqing hotpot is markedly different from the types eaten in other parts of China. Quite often the differences lie in the meats used, the type of soup base, and the sauces and condiments used to flavor the meat. It is quite spicy though, something much to my pleasure.

Do you prefer to dine in or dine out?

Well honestly, I’d usually prefer to dine in, spending some precious time with my beloved family members. I love listening to my father giving comments on all kinds of stuff over lunch time, with my mom sitting right next to him, nodding gently as he goes on with his long speech. I’d say this is just something touching to look at.

Describe someone who has recently been in the news who you would like to meet.

You should say:

who this person is

how you know about this person

why this person has been in the news

and explain why you would like to meet them.

Ok, right then, I'm going to describe someone who has recently been in the news who I would like to meet. Well, after thinking about it just now, I've decided I would like to talk about Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple.

And as for how I know about him, well I think it's probably fair to say that he must be one of the world’s most famous and successful entrepreneurs, so it would actually be kind of hard not to know about him! You know, even here in China, he's incredibly well-known, mainly due to the fact that Apple's products, like the iPhone and iPad, are super popular here.

So going on to why he has been in the news, well as I'm sure you may have heard, he recently announced that he was stepping down as Apple's CEO, the reason being that he felt he was no longer able to fulfill the duties and expectations of being CEO. So it will be interesting to see how Apple does without him, as he has, without doubt, been the main driving force and mastermind behind the company’s success.

But anyway, with regards to why I would like to meet Steve Jobs, well to put it simply, I reckon I would be able to learn a tremendous amount from him, and in so doing, hopefully emulate him in some way.

I should also mention the fact that, not long ago, I read a biography about him, which gave a lot of insights into how he started and grew Apple, and after reading about all the various challenges he has had to overcome, in his personal life as well as business, my admiration for him has increased considerably, and so if I was given an opportunity to meet anyone, then he would be right up at the top of my list!

1. Do you think it's important to be on time?

Yeah, I think it definitely is, because it’s basic manners to be on time for things. You know, I think you‘d agree it’s pretty rude to keep people waiting, and so it kind of leaves a bad impression on people.

2. How do you feel when others are late?

Well I guess it kind of depends, because I mean, if there’s a good reason for being late, you know, like getting stuck in traffic, then I won’t really mind that much. But you know, if the person doesn’t really have any excuse and it’s simply because they couldn’t be bothered to arrive on time, then I suppose I might feel a bit annoyed.

Other ideas:

If someone’s late by only a few minutes or so, then that’s no big deal, you know, I have no problem at all with that. But if someone’s late by, like, an hour or something, then it can be pretty annoying, especially if I’ve gone to the trouble of getting there on time.

3. Are you, yourself, late very often?

If yes:

Yeah, I am. And I know it’s a bad habit, but for some reason, no matter how hard I try, I always seem to end up being late for things!

If no:

No, I wouldn’t say I am. You know, most of the time I’m pretty good with being on time for things, because I always make a quite big effort not to be late.

7. When does time seem to move fast, and when does it seem to move slowly?

Well, I think most people would agree that time moves fast when you’re having fun. And a prime example would be when playing computer games, cos I mean, whenever I play online with my friends, it always seems that only an hour or two has passed, but in actual fact, it’s probably been four or five hours!

And time normally goes slowly when you’re bored or simply just not enjoying yourself. For example, I remember at school, some of my classes felt like they would never end, when in fact they were just, like, 45 minutes long!

8. If you could go back in time, what would you do differently?

That’s a good question. What would I do differently? Um….., ok well first of all, if I could go back in time, I would definitely spend more time practicing the piano, because you know, I never really practiced that much when I was younger, and I kind of regret it now, because I’d love to be able to play the piano well.

Well, these days such photographs are called 'selfie' and I did not know that there was something called selfie until I turned to 23! Selfie is indeed a craze these days while it was unheard of in the past, at least to me. The photograph that I would like to talk about was not a so-called selfie that teenagers take these days using the front camera of their mobile phones. I took this picture many years ago when I was around 12 years old with a large Canon camera.

My father gave me this camera on my 12th birthday and this was the first time when I owned a camera. I loved to capture pictures of my relatives and beautiful sceneries. We had to use a rolled film at that time called ‘rollfilm’ and did not have the freedom to take as many photos as we wanted unlike the digital camera owners have these days.

One day I was invited to one of my friends' birthday party and his parents requested me to bring my camera with me. I took many photos at that party and at night when I returned from the party, I noticed that 2-3 film strips were still empty and I could take more photos before I send the film roll to be washed and printed. At that time I was in my room and could not find anything suitable to capture. I was standing in front of the looking glass and the idea of taking my own picture popped into my head. It was a Canon CF-23 model camera and had only 3-4 options to adjust the light and flash while taking a photo. I had to spend more than 5 minutes to capture the picture and after I saw the printed version of this photo, I loved it.

The picture shows me standing straight and holding a camera in front of my eyes. The backlight was visible and was more like a shining star in the sky. A part of the room was visible but everything in the opposite direction as it was through the mirror. I like this photo very much. It was taken by me, the idea was new, at least to me and the photo looks nice. My mother has this picture in her picture album and every time I see this photo, it reminds me my teenage days.
