1. What kind of jewelries do you like?

Well, I think I like all kinds jewelries, like the necklace, the ring, the earring and so on. Since the women are natural jewelry-lovers, I think the jewelry has already become a part of my life.

2. Have you given other people jewelries?

Yes, I have. I remembered that I sent a beautiful necklace to my best friend when it came to her birthday. The necklace was made of the white gold and crystal, and its design was very unique. My friend fell in love with it at the first sight.

3. Why do people like it?

Well, on the one hand, people like wearing jewelry according to the style of their clothes. In this case, they will look more elegant under the decoration of the jewelry. On the other hand, the jewelry also symbolizes the social status and the social background.

4. What is your attitude toward jewelry?

Well, I think the jewelry is very important since it can show a person's taste and quality. However, I do not think that people should buy too much jewelry since it may make people look like an upstart.

5. Why so many people choose to buy expensive jewelry to maintain value?

Well, I think buying expensive jewelry is also a kind of investment. With the development of the society, the currency may be devalued due to the inflation. Since the material and the design of jewelry has their own value, people may chose to invest on the expensive jewelry in order to make money.

Describe an educational TV program.

You should say:

what the program is

what type of program it is

what contents it has

and explain what you learned from the program.

I’d like to talk about a program from my childhood called “How 2”, I believe it’s originally a British TV show that was televised in my country with subtitles. The presenters certainly spoke with a British accent.

It’s hard to pin down exactly what type of program it was, I guess a mixture of science and history, with some everyday facts thrown in for good measure. The title itself is a play on words, as the series would show you ‘how to’ do certain things.

The show is aimed at kids in middle school or high school. The hosts would routinely do experiments to demonstrate science in action, I remember one in particular where the presenters were trying to pour water out of a bottle in the quickest way possible. The winner had a very good technique whereby she would swirl the water, creating a vortex and causing the liquid to fly out of the bottle far quicker than any of the others’.

As you would expect, the show got me interested in science and learning, but it also showed that you could do many experiments yourself and have fun at home, with everyday objects and materials that were easy to get hold of. At school we would need equipment and the teacher would have to supervise us, but at home we could be left to our own devices, with just a bottle and some water to keep us amused.

I’m a bit behind the times, so I think number one on my list of most wanted, indeed most needed equipment, is a smartphone.

I’m not sure exactly where to by my new toy. On the one hand I could buy it on the Internet, where it’s likely to be cheaper, but on the other hand I prefer the more intimate experience of going to a shop and seeing the product first hand before I commit to buy it. Zhongguancun, an area of Beijing, has a huge selection of technological equipment, with mall after mall housing floor after floor of computers, phones and other tech. It’s a geek’s paradise.

My current phone has been described as an ‘old man’s phone’. It basically only calls and sends text messages. My new smartphone will have a plethora of features, including a high-resolution camera and the ability to download a wide range of apps, like WeChat. It can also play movies, which will be especially useful when I’m trying to kill time on the subway on the way to work.

Really, the soon I buy a smartphone the better. It’s high time I was brought up to date, I don’t want to be one of those technophobes who is dragged kicking and screaming into the modern age. I’d also like to start using WeChat as everyone I know has it and I don’t want to get left behind or kept out of the loop.

Describe a situation where you have to be polite

Ok, well I would actually like to start by saying that I try to be polite in all situations, because that was basically how I was brought up, but if I was to choose a particular occasion when I had to be polite, then I’ll talk about the time I went to a friend’s house for their birthday party.

And as for when it was, well I suppose it must have been about three or four months ago, and basically what happened was that a friend of mine invited me, along with a few other of his friends, to his house for dinner to celebrate his birthday with him. And when we got there, we were given a nice welcome by his parents, who then offered us some drinks and took us through to the living room to wait for a bit while they finished preparing the dinner. Anyway, it was worth the wait, because the dinner was fantastic, and by the end of it, I was absolutely stuffed!

So regarding why I had to be polite, well, I think it goes without saying that whenever you go to someone else’s house, you should always be polite, you know, it’s common sense, because I mean, if someone’s kind enough to invite you to their home and treat you to food and drink, the least you can do is be polite and well-mannered, and if you’re not, then chances are that you won’t get invited back!

You know, I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all experienced times when someone hasn’t behaved very well when they’ve been a guest at our home, and usually when that happens, the first thing we say to each other when that person’s left is, “there’s no way they’re ever coming back!”. Of course for young children it’s different, but for adults there’s no excuse at all. And if you do make the effort to be polite, then it makes a big difference, because then you’ll leave a very good impression and consequently be welcome as a guest again in the future.
