随着现代科技对人类社会的影响越来越广泛，雅思写作考试对此类话题的考查也变得越来越频繁。科技类涉及的范围也越来越广，不仅包括手机、电脑、网络，而且农业、医疗、环境、太空、交通以及工业等方面也有所涉及。

科技类最常见的话题类型有两种，一个是科技产品评价及未来发展，也就是说“科技产品怎么样，以后会怎么样”的问题。包括对现有科技产品的评价【优劣势分析、是否合乎道德标准和对个人、企业、国家及社会的影响】和预想以后会出现什么样的产品或现有产品会出现的功能及对未来的影响等。

另一个是科技产品作为媒介，即“怎么用”的问题。包括现代通讯技术使人类足不出户便能操作网络购物、电视购物、网上银行、等;人类使用手机的利弊;互联网传播信息的优缺点;网上翻译软件盛行因此学习外语是否有必要等。
