题目:

A Historical Even

Describe a historical event from your country.

You should say:

what the event was

when and where it happened

how you learnt about this event

and explain why you remember this event so well.

范文:

The event I'd like to describe is called the Great Leap Forward, which is one of the worst things happened in the history of China.

If my memory serves me well, it happened from 1958 to 1961, at that time China was quite poor.

I mainly learnt this event through my history textbook, but I found my books quite vague about the details, so I went online to get information about this event. And the search was quite fruitful. I pretty much got a whole picture of this notorious event.

This event was led by Mao Zedong, who at that time was the president of China.

And he decided to initiate this event because he paid a visit to the Soviet Union and thought China could catch up with the western countries in no time.

This historical event had some major impacts on China, the first one of which is the rural economy. Before the Great Leap Forward, there were a huge number of farmers in China, but they were not allowed to grow their own crops, and many of them were forced to participate in steel production. As a result, the agriculture in China shrank dramatically.

Also, it caused the deaths of millions of people. It is said that over 18 million people died of the event. In some parts of the country, many villages simply disappeared. My grandpa actually experienced the horror of the event and he told me that it was totally unimaginable.

Thankfully, after the event, the leaders of China realized that they made a huge mistake, and decided to bring the economy back to the right track.

That’s the event I’d like to share with you.

Describe an important event in history in your country.

Ok, I am going to talk about one of the most important events that happened in Chinese history. It's about how the ancient silk road was created. Since it played a vital role in history and nowadays, I'd like to share this event with you.

To the best of my knowledge, from 138-139 BC, a man named Zhang Qian who was an outstanding Western Han diplomat and traveller blazed a trail from China to the west. Actually, he started his journey from Chang'An, the ancient capital of China and ended at the eastern shore of Mediterranean Sea, which linked up fields, deserts, grasslands and mountains from China, to Middle Asia and to Europe. This was the ancient well-known silk road.

And finally, about why the historic event was so important. It's fair to say that it was a road that bridged China and the West. For example, we carried the great Chinese inventions like silk, gunpower, papermaking, and printing to the west and we brought back Western inventions, art works and cultures to China. Plus, the Ancient Silk Road has been named the world cultural heritage by UNESCO. And China is now focusing on developing a modern silk road. Thank you.

Sample One:

And now here’s your topic. I’d like you to talk about a history story that interested you.”

A history story1that really impressed me in 2011 was about the nuclear disaster in Japan, in Fukushima. Um, I remember very clearly that night, when the news came out, I was at a bar in Shuangjing, and we started getting news. People were receiving3 news on their phones. Some people were trying… onto the net. They were going online, and I know my first reaction was to call my mum and to ask her to close the windows in the house and also I remember texting my best friend who has a young brother and, you know5, sort of saying to her, “Hey, you need to check out what’s happening online. Maybe there’s a nuclear disaster happening in Japan.” And in fact here in China we were lucky. I mean the wind blew a lot of the, um, the radiation6 into the ocean rather than7 towards us here, but even in China they found there had been8 some traces of radiation in vegetables. But I mean it was an absolutely terrible disaster and the Japanese people were… Actually my dad has been to Sendai. It’s so heavily9 populated… The whole of Japan, it’s not a very big country in terms of landmass, but it’s got a big population, and people were overwhelmed10. That tsunami, terrible… The farmers that lived in that area, I mean they could not leave their land because otherwise who would feed their animals and so they just had to kind of sit there and hope for the best. So it was a terrible disaster, and of course it has made people all around the world much more cautious about nuclear power… Um, I saw on CCTV 9 that people in Europe11 are worried about nuclear power at the moment too, and they want to get rid of their nuclear reactors.

Sample Two:

Describe an interesting event in history you know

As you know China has a 5000 year history so there are many historical events that have occurred but I guess I would talk about something that happened to Qu yuan, which is a well-know story in China.

Qu yuan is a famous poet and chancellor in Warring States Period. He also has another status, patriot. Due to the country is quite corrupt on the time, the government officials are full of themselves and bribery has become a common practice, the economy of whole country has largely deteriorated. In order to against with war and save his country on the verge of extinction, Qu yuan drowns himself into river, called Miluo,to show his own loyalty and heart. Without a doubt, he is a hero in Chinese people’s heart. In that case, people made rice dumpling and thrown them into the river to avoid that Qu yuan’s body was eaten by the fish.

Nowadays, the day that Qu yuan died has become a traditional festival and the rice dumpling has become the Chinese traditional food.

That is the event I would like to mention.

I’d like to tell a historical story about a person named Cang Jie who have created Chinese characters in history.

It happened in China about three thousand years ago when there was a emperor called Huang Di. Cang Jie was in his army and it was said that the emperor thought he really intelligent.

At that time ,people communicated with each other by verbal language.people could’t remember one thing for a long time. One day, Cang jie told the emperor that he tried to invent some words and every one could carry a meaning. In this way, people would do as the word said and they wouldn’t forget it. You know what, the emperor was so happy that he asked Cang jie to do as soon as possible because he wanted all the people to follow his meaning. Then Cang jie spent almost half a year to observe the animals, the sky and the earth .Finally he created the Chinese characters like moon, sun, sheep, cow, star, and person and so on.

As time went by, Cang jie had created a great number of chinese characters and everyone could recognize it when they saw them. It goes without saying that it was a great invention for human beings and it was a significant event in chinese history. Until now, there are millions of Chinese characters. What’s more, an increasing number of foreigners have come to China to study them, which makes me very proud and I really think it a fortune given by our ancestor. That’s the historical event I am interested in, so thanks for your listening!
