Some countries are experiencing a situation where their citizens are becoming heavier and also less fit and healthy. The causes of this are clear, but there are many possible solutions. I shall look at the causes and a couple of possible solutions in this essay.
In almost all cases, the causes of increased weight are diet and/or lack of exercise. If a person eats more calories than they use, they gain weight. If they do not exercise enough, this weight gain will be fat and too much fat causes health problems. The solutions, therefore, are simple enough – convince people to consume fewer calories and/or exercise more.
This is easier said than done. Nowadays, more and more people have access to more and more food. Many people prefer food that is high in calories – perhaps because they think it tastes better or perhaps because it is faster or more convenient. One way of getting them to eat fewer calories might be to show them tastier dishes quickly prepared using lower calorie
Another solution is to get people to exercise more, so that eating more calories is less of a problem. This could be done by making keeping fit less costly and easier to participate in. Financing sports and exercise facilities could be costly, but there could be long term savings if people are healthier as a result. If neighbourhoods had sports and exercise facilities, people would be able to use them more often.
In conclusion, there are two main causes of weight increase and there are several possible solutions to this and to declining levels of health and fitness.
The flexibility of enforcing laws has fallen into contentious topics of discussion especially when criminals are thought to do evils for some good motivations. Naturally people’s views differ from that the circumstance under which people have wrong doings should be taken into account to that fixed laws see no tolerance for any kind of crimes.
It is a bit understandable that the preference that judges are supposed to make room for the circumstance of a crime and its intentions prior to making sentence prevails among a certain number of people due to the fact that people in some extreme circumstances such as drought, flooding or even self-defense commit crimes just to survive. However, human beings’ natures pitifully make it impossible that more freedom is left to judges to decide on the punishment because human beings are born emotional and always selfish. As a result, without the prerequisite of establishment of justice and equity, the day when sentence is made in a flexible way will never arrive.
I think that it is the arbitrary law system, to be exact, the fixed punishments that do work in many aspects. For one thing, it can serve the deferring purpose and especially fills an indispensable role in avoiding the resistance or even riots in public. To a larger extent, it is able to frighten or scarce off the would-be criminals to ensure a safe living environment for the law-abiding citizens and warn those wrong doers of thinking twice. For another, this practice is surely a great consolation to the victims, for quite a few of them firmly hold that their loss of property or beloved must be compensated by merciless punishments based on fixed laws.
All in all, to ensure that the society can run smoothly before relatively perfect establishment of equity and justice, an overwhelming majority of cases have to be decided by cool laws.
In this essay, I shall say why I believe technology has had largely negative effects on the way people interact with each other.
The main technology that people use to create relationships nowadays is the Internet. This can be used in a variety of ways, notably by joining social networking sites or dating sites. It often seems that such websites encourage people to form friendships based on little information and on information which may not be true. For example, a website might recommend that two people become friends on the basis of the fact that they both like a particular film. The suggestion is that the people both like this film, therefore they both like the same films generally and/or have the same interests. If the information provided by website users is false 【for example gender or age】, a face-to-face friendship is very unlikely and the‘friendship’ is likely to remain online only.
I think that television has also affected the types of relationships people make, by dramatising certain types of relationships 【for example on soap operas】, and suggesting that these are the ones that are important in the real world and/or that these are the relationships people should copy.
Some people seem to think that they must make their lives as dramatic as those depicted on television, otherwise their lives will be dull. The constant need for drama can certainly have an effect on a person’s relationships with others.
To conclude, I think that technology has provided people with new ways to form relationships, but that the results have usually been negative, particularly compared to face- to-face communication and relationship creation.
Model Response
Over the past 50 years, people have become used to the idea that they will probably live longer than their grandparents did. However, a longer life is only desirable if you can look after
yourself and be independent, otherwise there can be disadvantages for everyone.
If you walk into a hospital in my country, you are likely to see a lot more elderly people than you did in the past. In fact, this is causing significant problems as there is a shortage of beds. Medical treatment is keeping the elderly alive, but at what cost to others?
On top of this, one of the biggest medical problems these days is dementia. Even if old people are still fit, they may not be able to look after themselves. They may have to live with their children or be cared for in a home, which can be expensive. Elderly people do not like to be a burden, but their children can feel obliged to care for them.
Obviously, not all old people become ill. Those who remain healthy can enjoy a happy old age as long as they have saved enough money. People are more active in their sixties and seventies than they used to be and this can only be a good thing. They have time to enjoy their retirement and do a range of activities that they could not do when they were at work. They can also help look after their grandchildren, which is a great benefit for working parents.
To sum up, I believe that we should aim to keep people as healthy as possible so that they can enjoy their old age without having to rely on others. A longer life expectancy is obviously advantageous, but no one wants to live to be 100 if they only cause problems for their family and society.
