The piece of art I am going to tell you is Mona Lisa. It is a half-length portrait painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci that has been described as the best known, the most visited, the most sung about, the most parodied and the most valuable work of art in the world.

And with her slightly curved corners of mouth and eyes, she seems to convey a mysterious smile

我第一次看到这幅画是在小学的美术课本上，当时老师向我们介绍了这幅画的背景。几年前，我到法国旅游的时候，又在卢浮宫看到了它的真迹。这幅画被固定在墙上，外面有一层坚固的玻璃保护。画前有无数的人在欣赏或者拍照。非常难以靠近。我只是远远的瞟了一眼就离开了。

I firstly saw the picture of this painting on the textbook of art in primary school and my teacher introduced the above background information. A couple of years ago, when I was traveling around Europe, I saw its original piece in Louvre Museum in France. The painting was fixed on the wall in a concrete glass box. In front of it were hundreds of people, who were either admiring it or taking a picture of it. It was nearly impossible to get through and come close. So I only caught a glimpse of it and move on.

可能是因为我没有艺术天赋，虽然我知道它很伟大，但却感受不到它美在哪里。在我看来，它跟其他的画作并没有太大区别，不知道为什么人们那么追捧它。

Maybe it is because I am short of art talent. Though I know this painting is great, I cannot tell where the beauty lies. In my eyes, there is not big difference between it and the other famous paintings. I do not understand why some people admire it so much.

We didn’t do a lot of arts and crafts when I was at school, so when we did it was a big deal. When you’re a kid, glue and paint ismuch more interesting than numbers and books, so it really sticks in your mind.

I remember one year, I was in primary school, so I must have been six or seven years old. It was Mother’s Day and my teacher told us we would make a greeting card for our mum to say thank you to her for raising us and to show that we loved her.

My memory is a little hazy, but I can still recall using the special scissors that you have in school, the ones that are extra safe so that children do not hurt themselves when they try to cut something. We also had the sticks of glue that you have to twist the bottom to get the sticky part. I cut a big heart out of some red paper and stuck it on to a yellow piece of card, then I covered it in glue and poured sparkly stuff all over it.Looking back it seems a bit over the top, but when you’re a child the more the better! Inside I wrote, “I love you, mummy” and drew a very bad picture of me.

Like I said, when you’re a kid you are always excited to make things and get messy with paint and glue. But because it was for my mum I was extra pumped up and wanted to make her the most beautiful card ever! She still has it today, along with a lot of other embarrassing artwork and photos from my childhood.

我想要讲述的一个建筑物是黄鹤楼，它坐落于武汉市，在中国的中部。这座建筑物始建于约公元220年间。后来大概是在19世纪80年代进行了翻修。

The building that I am going to talk about is the HUANGHELOU, which is called the Yellow Crane Tower in English. It is a traditional Chinese tower located in Wuhan, in central China. This building was built originally in the early probably 220 A.D. and has been renovated in the 1980s.

第一次去黄鹤楼还是大概在十年前，那个时候我还是个十几岁的小孩子。我家里人带我去武汉游玩，然我我们顺便预定了在长江边的那座黄鹤楼的参观门票。

The first time I went there was probably 10 years ago when I was a teenager. My family to me to Wuhan for travel, and we then booked the tickets to see this building near the Yangtze River.

我为什么会对这座建筑物这么着迷呢?我觉得一个最重要的原因就是黄鹤楼有个古老的神话传说，相传这座黄鹤楼同一位仙人和他的仙鹤有联系，这引发了我内心的好奇心。另外，这样的古老建筑也让我加深了对中国历史的了解。

Why am I so fascinated by this building? Well, I feel that the most important reason is that the mysterious legend that tells that a Taoistic god and his divine crane has some connection to this building which really drives me curious. Plus, it is also an antique building that helps enhance my understanding of the ancient history in China.

我想要谈到的一个需要改进的地方是火车站，我指的是那个老的车站，不是新修的西安高铁站。最近一次去西安那个火车站还是去年夏天那会儿看望曾经大学里的老同学。

The place I’m going to talk about is the train station of Xi’an, I mean the old one, not the newly built CRH【China Railway High Speed】 train station. The very last time I went there was actually last summer when I was visiting an old classmate of mine in College.

整个西安城的市容都发生了一些变化，变得相比以前更好了。唯独那个大多数五湖四海的人们都会路过的西安火车站没有发生太多变化。我下火车那一会儿，一股恶臭的尿液味加之空中的烟味轻轻的给了我一个欢迎之吻。一个我住了四年的地方卫生条件看起来几乎没有发生任何的改变。你是不知道那会儿我心里是多么的失落。让我刚到更加不舒服的就是，那边依然还有偷窃和欺诈的行为时常发生。

The appearance of the city has changed, it’s been better than before, except for the train station where most visitiors from home and abroad could drop by. The time I got out of train, the stinky smell of urine with a mix of some smoke just gently gave me a welcome kiss. You just couldn’t imagine how sad I was when I saw a city where I have once lived for 4 years just seemingly remainedthe same as it was in terms of the public sanitary condition. For example, leading you to a well known 3-star hotel which proved to be just a cheap copy.

我不太知道本地政府是如何看待这个的，也许他们已经努力做出了一些改进，比如说新修更高水平的高铁站。但是，为了城市的市容，老的火车站也依然需要得到改善。如果他们能够颁布一些法规出来管制一下就更好了。就像新加坡政府那样，给予他们重重的罚金，那么我想情况会好一些。

I’m not sure what the local government would be thinking about this. Maybe they’ve made some effort in the improvement of the public environment like setting up another brand new train station with higher level public environment. Whereas, the old one still needs some improvements for the sake of the image of the city. It would be really helpful if the government make some laws to regulate the problems. Like what the government in Singapore does, giving them heavy fines, then I guess the situation would become better.
