Describe a bad weather experience you have had.

You should say:

what sort of bad weather it was

when it happened

where you were when it happened

and explain how it affected you.

Well, I am from England, and in England, we love to talk about the weather! I can recall one particularly extraordinary day, when bad weather brought my city of Sheffield to a standstill. I am going to tell you what the weather was like, where I was when it happened and how it affected me I still shiver as I recall it!

I woke up on a December morning about four years ago and the first thing I noticed was that it was really really quiet. It is hard to describe if you have never experienced it, but after a thick snowfall, everything sounds different. The snow had fallen feet deep onto the ice, it was really treacherous even trying to walk in these conditions. Where I live in Sheffield, it is incredibly hilly. Snow ploughs had cleared the major roads, but this had exposed dangerous thick black ice underneath which was impossible to walk across. The combination of ice and steep slopes meant that I was sliding around everywhere and so was everyone else.

My normal walk to work would have taken me perhaps 30 minutes, but on this day it took over three times that long as I had to negotiate the tricky roads and paths. We stayed at work long enough to phone people to cancel appointments and confirm we were shut, and then I had the same long trek home in the snow again. I was exhausted by the time I got back!

It was quite an experience, it made me appreciate how much we should respect the elements. I felt safe at first because it was an urban environment, and usually, we don’t get much disruption due to bad weather there, but really the snow and ice made it unnavigable for the next few days.

Describe an important historical event in your country.

You should say:

What the event was

when it happened

How you heard about it

And explain why this historical event is important.

The founding of the People’s Republic of China. The Cultural Revolution

改革开放:the Reform and opening up

It’s definitely the reform and opening up initiated by Deng Xiaoping soon after the end of the Cultural Revolution, which, I think is also very important but no match of this one. Anyway, the cultural revolution ended in 1976, and the reform and opening up was initiated in 1978. Of course I, like many other young people in China have learned, systematically a lot from our textbooks. But I didn’t realize its importance until I have read so many reports and books from various channels, some of them are from famous historians now living and teaching in American or British universities. Therefore the bulk of my understanding of it definitely comes from their reports, lectures, etc.

First of all, I want to put the reform and opening up back to the grand narrative of China since 3000 years ago when China first got its name The Empire of the Middle. Ancient Chinese believed that China, or my country, located at the center of the world. Well, this was a narrative, or legend, once held by many nations at the very beginning. However, due to the geopolitical uniqueness, China maintained this legend until the late 19th century when the British Empire and other modern countries invaded China since the 1840s. In no more than 20 years the legend was replaced by one miserable story after another of occupations, of exploitation, of territorial secession. And this strong sense of inferiority lasted for almost eighty or ninety years, until 1949 when Communist party brought the nation together again. And we used another three years to reach a peace deal the the United States in North Korea, and then its the Cultural Revolution. All those events caused a big problem of national identity: who are we? What’s the position of China in the world? We asked ourselves questions like this at that time. So there came Deng Xiaoping, a man who once studied in France in his early twenties. He opened the gate of China. He showed the Chinese people that we had been left behind by western countries. He told us, in an indirect way that our governance was not that successful compared to our capitalist enemies. So, what he did basically was to relocate China in this small planet.

The second reason, of course, is China’s economy. Back in 1978, when China’s top leaders were trying their best to dispose of the problems left by the Cultural Revolution, and nobody knows where China should go. It was Deng Xiaoping pointed out the way and said the economic development is the top task and the reform and opening up solved the problem of how to develop economy. And within ten years, well, twenty years, by the end of 1998, China’s economy was beyond anybody’s imagination. The key point is, no great public turmoil happened in these twenty years, I think this is the importance of the Reform and the Opening up.

雅思口语person important to society话题

Describe a person whose job is important to the society you should say: who this person iswhat job does he or she havehow you know this personand explain why his/her job is important to the society

A person you know had made a contribution to the society 【New】You should say:Who the person isWhat the person didHow did you know thatAnd explain why you think it is a contribution to the society

第一个关键词 who,你可以说是your primary teacher Peggie,或者a teacher from the kindergarten I was in when I was 4 years old,named Peggie这么一比较很少有学生会选primary teacher,语言过于简单,因为没有具体支撑的细节信息。而且你自己引入了过去信息,时态上也会更加丰富;

当然你不要停在这里,要给出extra information,这是加分点。可以描述这位老师的外貌,性格,爱好,特点等等。而这些是描述人物题的基础方面。更好的方式是把这些有逻辑的串联起来。因为这些可以放在how you know her当中,是很好的你知道了解他甚至是很喜欢这个人的原因;

她的具体工作内容,可以采用总分的描述方式;记得分的部分要具体:教你某一种课,带你吃饭,哄你睡觉,陪你等家长等等routine affairs;

作为educator,自然是teach and guide,而在enlightenment启蒙阶段,更是对一个人的personality and character方面起positive的作用。 I’d definitely like to talk about one of my teacher,Peggie, who I believe makes great contribution to our society by doing her own job. She is actually still working in the kindergarten I was in when I was 4 years old. Not only is she glamorous, has big eyes,always wears her hair in a pony tail and has a singbird-like voice, which is ,honestly, one of the main reasons that I’m incredibly attracted to her. but also she is extremely patient. What I’m saying is that I used to be really naughty and she never got angry with me or even annoyed。

In terms of her detailed working responsibilities,there are those routine affairs like teaching the handcrafting class,make sure the kids are well fed,and most importantly,guarantee the safety especially when a lot of running around are involved. Another duty of hers is to guide and teach the little fellows what to do and what not to.

So,the sole reason her job deem to be a great contribution to the community is that as an educator in the enlightenment period of one’s life, she contributes in shaping a good person, cultivating positive personalities and characters, delivering healthy ways of thinking and behaving. All these things make great men who dedicate to devote and give back to the society. There’s a Chinese saying goes ‘a clever boy doesn't bound to make a great man’. However I’d like to think ‘to make a great man, one better be well nurtured” of course I mean by his preschool teacher.

1. Are there many museums in your city?

Sorry, I don't know, because I never go to museums. I think museums are so boring! Sample answer:

I hear there's quite a few museums in my city and they are of various sorts, including history, art, science and technology and so on. It's a pity I haven't been able to visit each one of them. I bet they are fascinating.

2. When was the last time you went to a museum?

Sorry, I never go to museums,这个回答显然不够好,在这种情况下,我们可能就需要适当地编故事了,因为这样才能拓展出更多的内容,从而我们可以更好地展现自己的词汇和造句等语言功力。

Sample answer:

Actually, I just visited the Military Museum with my big cousin last weekend. He's a huge fan of things like battles and weapons, so he literally dragged me there. But to my surprise, the trip to the museum was indeed very enjoyable and rewarding.

3. Do you think museums are important?

Sample answer:

I do think museums play a big role in our society. They enable people to open their eyes and enrich their knowledge. Not only that, they have the function of protecting and preserving local history and culture. Museums also help to enhance cultural communication.

4. Would you like to work in a museum in the future? Of course not, because it's too boring!

Sample answer:

No, I wouldn't want to work in a museum as a full-job job. You know, I'm the kind of people who like to take challenges. Working the same routine day after day is just not my thing. But I wouldn't mind doing it as a part-time job while studying in college.
