Okay. Let me tell you about my experience last summer when we visited my grandparents in a village in Shandong Province.
My grandparents’ village is by the Huang He River. In the first 2 days there, everything was still fresh, the woods, the water, the lotus leaves, the pond, the cattle, the fields and the cicada hunting. And then boredom started to haunt me. It was hot and there was no air conditioner and few entertainments were available.
cicada /sɪˈkɑː.də/ n. 知了
boredom start to haunt me...
One summer afternoon, my cousin Daniel and I were wandering along the river bank wondering what to do to kill this boring summer afternoon. All of a sudden, Daniel got an idea. He told me we should have a competition, which took me by surprise. In that heat and in that kingdom of boredom, what competition could we have, to see who could survive longer standing in the burning sun without drinking any water? He proceeded by explaining that we should each dig a piece of mud, make it into a shape of a bowl, cast it onto the ground upside down and then see whose bowl make the biggest sound. It sounded stupid in the beginning and failed to intrigue me. But when Daniel jumped into the river and did as he explained, I decided to try. It honestly felt awesome to have hands and feet inside the cool mud and water. And the explosion of the mud bowl miraculous excited me.

1.Describe an experience when you waited for someone.
You should say:
who you waited for
when you waited for him or her
where you waited for him or her
And explain what you felt when you were waiting.
2.Describe the time when others didn’t tell you the whole truth.
You should say:
when it happened
who told you the lie
what he/she said
And explain how you found out the truth.
Yesterday I waited for David. He is always late. I waited for him for half an hour. He was caught in a traffic jam…Then…Er…Hmm…【然后就没有然后了】你也可能知道自己得回答给出的四个问题,但是给出的答案却是这样的:The person I waited for was David. I waited for him several days ago. I waited for him in a restaurant and I was really disappointed when I was waiting for him…
Who…?
The person I waited for was David, a friend of mine who I always turn to whenever I have trouble in life. He is a decent man with many creditable personal traits, like being humorous, sociable and intelligent, but constantly being late is not one of them. We’ve known each other for ten years, and not even once did he arrive early for our appointments. I remember that he was a young man in his late 20s. He was tall and lean, just like a beanstalk. He was wearing a smart suit, and seemed to be quite professional. When he started talking, I assumed that he was smart and really knew a thing or two about laptops.
Where…?
I waited for him in Coconut Paradise, a restaurant of note in this city serving Thai food. It is located on Changshu Road in Jing’an District, which is renowned for the long history and delicious cuisine restaurants lining the route. This has long been my favorite restaurant in Shanghai because of the relaxing atmosphere, thoughtful waiters, as well as the authentic Thai flavor.
The place I traveled to was Langkawi, an island of note in Malaysia.
It is located in western Malaysia, off the coast of Penang.
This has long been my favorite place to travel with my family because of the warm sunshine, hospitable local people and delicious tropical fruits.
When…?
It happened on my birthday. 【你怎么庆祝你的生日?】I made reservation in my favorite restaurant beforehand and held a party there. 【谁和你一起庆祝?】I invited ten of my classmates and two of our teachers to the party. To tell the truth, I had never held a party for my birthday before. Usually I just bought a cake and shared it with my roommates.
The journey I want to talk about here happened last winter, November, to be exact. The temperature here in Shanghai had dropped to below 10C by then, and the annoying haze had hovered over this city for several days. By contrast, the weather in Xiamen at that time was much better, mild temperature, always sunny, perfect for people seeking for relaxation.
What…?
【Describe the time when others didn’t tell you the whole truth.】
Q: What he/she told you?
A: He told me various advantages of the laptop. For example, it is equipped with a powerful CPU. Besides, he said that the graphic card is amazing, perfect for online games. He also mentioned back-lit keyboard, which would be appreciated when the laptop was used at night.
例二:【Describe an experience of receiving good service.】
Q: what service you received?
A: I once went to the restaurant on a rainy day. When I arrived, a waiter came to greet me, helping me to hang the umbrella on the wall and then wiped the rain drops off my boots with a piece of cloth. Then he showed me to the waiting area where I could enjoy some snacks and drinks. When I was finally seated by the table, another waiter came to me with a small plastic bag to put my cell phone, and a piece of cloth to clean my eyeglasses.
I’d like to talk about the special meal I had with a bunch of kittens last weekend. Me and my friend were walking around in the mall and trying to kill the tedious long afternoon. A fun cafe called ‘shared cat’ came up on my phone.
I’ve heard that cat ownership would be helpful in relieving stress and anxiety.
We were not that hungry by that time, so we just ordered something simple like a Cesar salad and two smoothies. While we were waiting for the food to come, a kitten jumped on my leg and started meowing, I was flattered and enthralled at the same time. Too bad I didn’t have my camera, I’m sure I would be able to shoot a fantastic film, even with my lousy technique. It was such an unforgettable unusual meal.
1. relieve stress and anxiety
2. order something simple【
3. flattered adj.
4. enthralled adj.
5. lousy adj.
Describe an occasion when you helped a person
You should say:
What the situation was具体的情况如何?
Who you helped
How you helped
And explain how you felt after giving help
The person I helped was an old lady. It was Monday morning. I took bus to work as usual. Fortunately enough, I found a seat among the crowd who flooded into the bus once the door opened. You can imagine how difficult it was during the peak hours in Beijing.
After two stops, there climbed in an old lady at her 60s. She looked around and became disappointed finding that there was no seat available. She made a few steps forward and came to stand right beside me. This left me in a moral dilemma. On one hand, traditional Chinese culture required me to stand up and give my seat to her. This article is from Laokaoya website. Do not copy or repost it. On the other hand, my reason said no, because if I did, I would have to stand the whole journey and that would be suffering.
Eventually my conscience prevailed over my reason and I decided to show courtesy. But to my surprise, at the moment I intended to stand up and even before my butt left the seat, the old lady pulled me out and sat down. She looked like she deserved the seat and how dare me to sit for a few seconds after she stood beside. I never got my ‘thank you’ and could not feel my legs when I got off. Therefore, rather than feeling happy or a sense of achievement, I felt frustrated and decided I would never give my seat away again.
