范文:
There are several types of advertisements that we see daily on TV, billboards, through the Internet, social networking sites, mobile applications, and mobile games. Many of them are very banal, full of marketing speech and kind of boring while others are average and their primary focus is to express the positive sides of a product to increase the sales. Finally, quite a few of them are creative, informative, humorous, fascinating and memorable.
I usually do not like to watch advertisement between a movie/ TV programme and large commercial breaks are quite annoying to me. I personally think that the best way of advertising is using billboards, which can lead you to remember the brand name forever without actually annoying you.
Well, the best advertisement I have ever seen that I still like for its uniqueness was on a highway in the United Arab Emirates and I really liked the idea of this advertisement. One day while passing the main road a big billboard caught my eyes. It was designed to look like the filtration zone of a cigarette which is commonly known as the cigarette butt. The large billboard was quite different in shape and it presented the message ‘Stop smoking even Marlboro’ quite visibly.
I stole a glance at the billboard and thought about the message it conveyed. I actually did not think much and forgot about it. After an hour I found myself in front of a beach with a packet of Marlboro cigarette in my pocket. While I was lighting a cigarette, I was wondering why I bought a packet of Marlboro? It is usually not my brand! To my surprise, I realised that the advertisement that I saw on the road had an immense effect on my psychology unconsciously.
I was convinced that the billboard had forced me to buy that brand unconsciously. I think it was the first time I realised how advertisements can target people's unconscious mind. Technically speaking this is the moment I realised that the best way to influence people’s buying behaviour is to use their unconscious mind instead of trying to deliver marketing speeches. When I thought more to analyse the billboard advertising and its effect on me, I realised that the advertiser tried to use reverse advertising techniques by delivering the message that Marlboro is less dangerous and smokers who wish to quit smoking should try this. Possibly all smokers- from light smokers to heavy ones, wish a day without smoking though many of them do not try hard.
Then the billboard advertisement was pretending as if they were broadcasting an important public safety message. Moreover, they used a fascinating design on the billboard that would actually grab anyone's attention. As you can see, they were quite successful as I still remember this advert very vividly and I like this advertisement due to the creative thinking of the maker.

范文
Well, the first one comes to my mind is a funny one. There is a piece of advertisement that is directed by Hengyuanxiang, a company majors in knitting wool, cashmere, sweater and fabrics. This company was found in 1927, almost a hundred years ago and is now one of the market leaders in China. Every year, when autumn comes, this simple but funny advertisement will appear on the television. I’m sure that everyone who watches TV and elder than 15 knows this piece of advertisement.
Though it is a company whose products always keep pace with the times, its advertisements’ style remains in the 1970s. At the beginning of the advertisement, a reach of grassland suddenly appears on the entire screen. Then three huge Chinese characters, Hengyuanxiang, will zoom out one by one from the right and stop in the center. Then a voice of a man will read the characters out aloud in an inflexible tone. I always wonder that whether this sound is synthesized with computer or not. Following it is a childish voice, cheering “yang, yang, yang”, which means sheep, sheep, sheep, the company’s main product area. During this process, the image on the screen remains still. To be honest, this advertisement is very short. If that is all of it, it would be fine, though not very pleasant. But it is not over yet. The advertisement will then be repeated for 3 to 4 times, and sometimes it can reach 12 times and finally drives you crazy. After that, this advertisement will immediately occupy your mind, and you cannot think about anything else but “yang, yang, yang” in your mind.
When I was young, I always saw it on the television. At that time people rely on televisions, and we have no choice but to sit in front of TV and watch different advertisement to wait for the TV program. So we watched this piece of advertisement for many times. I don’t know whether this company do this on purpose or not, but this advertisement does leave a very deep impression to the audience.

雅思口语考试关于广告话题及回答
1. In China nowadays, what things are being advertised quite a lot?
In China nowadays weight loss products are being advertised a lot, and you can always see these advertisements everywhere you go. In fact, losing weight has become more and more popular in China, and young people 【especially young girls】 are getting hooked on it. Actually the sad truth is some girls are not even fat, but since weight loss advertisements are playing on television and radios all day long, they start to doubt themselves and think they are not thin enough. Another thing is that clothes sizes are becoming smaller and smaller, so just to fit themselves in those skinny clothes they start to try different weight loss pills, or teas, and some of them are definitely not healthy.
2. What do you think is the function of advertising?
I would say that the function of advertising is to encourage people to but or use a product or service. This should be done by making the public aware of the product’s benefits and good-points, like it’s rock-bottom price or ease of use. Unfortunately, some advertisements use more underhand methods to sell their product like offering false information or telling you that if you don’t buy the product then you will be miserable. This is dishonest and manipulative, in fact it’s completely below the belt.
3. There are several different ways to advertise. Which do you think is the most effective form of advertising?
There are many different ways to advertise products. Some of them use famous movie stars and famous singers, so people get it into their heads that if they use this product they can be a famous and successful person. It sells a positive image by associating the product with a celebrity. It is quite effective and cuts right to the chase. However, it’s rather unsubtle. People nowadays realize that no matter how hard you try, you can never be as good as the star who is shown on TV. So in my opinion, the best way to advertise is to have a genuinely good and useful product that actually works on people. Some make-up companies let their customers use their products for free for a few days, and when they feel that it’s really helpful and effective then they will buy it regularly. Sometimes they even like to share this with their friends, so in this way they become more and more popular. Therefore the companies are saving advertising money and make more goods.
4. What do you think are the good and the bad points about advertisements?
Advertising is a good way for the people to know about a product in a short time. It helps the people get to know the function of a product and its main features quickly. Some of them even allow you to access the product straight away by giving you a phone number for home delivery. The other side of the coin is that since you only see the products on TV you don’t really get the idea of the reality. For example, some products might look bigger on TV than in the real life, so you feel you get cheated. The company selling the product also has an obvious desire to say good things about their product, not all of which may be well-deserved.
5. Do you think some advertising can have negative effects on children?
In my opinion, I think it’s true that some advertising can have negative effects on children, Weight-loss products give the children the idea being skinny is beautiful, so then they don’t care about their health. This can affect their judgment of beauty: they might think all the beautiful and skinny ladies are good, and the fat ones are bad. They may get unhealthy ideas about the nature of how to live their lives. Junk food advertising is also an area of concern. Advertising food at is unhealthy is okay for adults because they are responsible enough to make up their own minds, but children don’t have the life-experience to resist its temptation.
