In my life, there are several persons in my family members who made unmatched contributions to help me go ahead and among them my father’s contribution is unforgettable. He is the person whom I love most in this world and I consider him to be a perfect human being with his uncompromised honesty, bravery and responsibility.

I know my father from the very beginning of my life as he is the person who brought me in this world. From my childhood, he has raised me with his love, affection and mentorship. He taught me about the world, people and values. He helped me on my education and has devoted his life to properly raise me.

My father is an exemplary person who has led an honest life. As a high ranking government officer, he had many chances to pile up the riches but he had always known what the right things to do. The basic of humanity and the importance of education were something he delivered to me. He is now a retired person and leads his serene and peaceful like with contentment and happiness. As a father, I would say he has done everything humanly possible to raise me and my 3 other siblings. He spent his entire earning for our happiness and necessity while he went through hardship. I learned the true meaning of life and started achieving some of the qualities he has. The person who I am now is mostly because of my father's devotion and dedication. To me, he is an ideal person whom I often mimic and consider as my idle in my life.

1. Why does shopping make people happy?

误区：

这个问题其实比较简单，但仍然有一些同学可能会反而把这个问题想得很复杂，我们其实并不需要从一个非常专业的心理学角度psychological angle来准确回答，只需要做到“言之有理，言之有物，紧扣主题，自圆其说”就可以了。

思路：

一说起购物，我们可能就会联想到几个女士领着五颜六色的包包在很大的商场里面买东西。没错，就抓住你的这个第一印象我们就可以展开。

买东西，尤其是女性购买衣服，都是为了自己的形象image能够拿得出手look good，这样才会提升自己的魅力charm或者charisma，还有自信心confidence等等。其实不光是女士，男士在买车买房上也是比较务实的practical或者唯物的materialistic，因为社会上大家都在这么做，你如果不这么购置物品和别人保持基本的一致的话，在某种意义上来说，你还不够成功。

但是通过购买，你就可以获得成就感a sense of achievement等。我们还可以列举更多这样的例子，主语可以换成学生students，老年人the elderly，或者再确切点家庭主妇housewives，商业大亨business tycoon，都可以通过他们购买的特定东西来说明让他们快乐的原因。

Well, you know it's always a pleasant feeling to wear brand new clothes that look good. It can make your image better and improve your charisma, and people are more self-confident when they are pleased with their appearance. I think it’s understandable that ladies always try to buy new clothes. Furthermore, people are all becoming more and more materialistic: we all care about occupying good stuff like cars or big houses and even the latest version of iPhone, especially when other people have. If we can afford something fancy with our own salary, we will experience a sense of achievement.

雅思口语Decisions话题

1. What skills are necessary when making decisions?

关于decision-making的话题，以及关于skills的问题在part 3当中并不算少见，因此同学们还是需要多加注意，平时要多多积累语料。

这个题目在回答的过程当中，同学们容易陷进“skills”的陷阱当中去，很多同学对于skills这个单词的理解非常的狭隘，认为只有“技术性”、“技能性”的才能叫做skills，其实，只要是和能力相关，只要是表示“能做什么样的事情”，都可以用skills这个词来表达。比如雅思听力当中就常常出现writing skills和study skills这种表达，这个时候我们就不一定非要僵硬地把这个词组理解成“写作/学习技能”，而是直接说“写作/学习能力”更好一些。更何况，在一个雅思口语part 3的答案中，流利的应对非常重要，相比较于花时间去纠结skills到底指的是什么，更明智的做法显然是联系decision-making的过程，描述这个当中需要的能力。

具体来说，做决定的时候，我们需要搜集信息，需要跟他人沟通讨论，有时候甚至需要坚持自己的主张【assert my opinions】或者控制情绪，这些都可以作为答案内容。

示范答案：

Making decisions is a complex process, which might involve a great many skills. For starters, the ability of collecting facts and figures is essential, because the first step of making a decision is to get a whole understanding of the relevant information. Sometimes, we need to be computer-literate to look up information on the Internet. Secondly, we shall be able to do some data analysis so that we can make a wise decision. In addition, we need to keep calm inside, even when it is an urgent situation and we are asked to make prompt decisions, otherwise we might decide on something and regret it quite soon. Finally, a good decision-maker should be able to control his own mood and never get emotional, since we are not likely to make a good decision when we are thrilled, furious or anxious. So to sum up, there are plenty of necessary skills when making a decision. Sometimes we are not even aware of them.

2. How can people improve their decision-making skills?

这个题目的回答思路其实还是比较广的，我们可以将此题和上一题联系起来【很多时候考官确实会把这样的两道题目连着问】，那么此时我们就应该从上一题的答案出发，具体讲解如何提高搜集信息的能力，如何提高分析数据的能力等等，这是一个思路;

另一方面，我们可以考虑从宽泛的地方入手，讲一个“放之四海而皆准”的答案【比如今天的示范答案】，具体内容方面就是锻炼能力的通常途径：练习。

考生不必担心这样“放之四海而皆准”的答案内容会不会让考官误以为在背答案，因为这个内容对应该问题并不牵强，同时还很实际。我们只要注意回答的时候要自然一些就好了。

示范答案：

I think people can improve their decision-making skills the way they do to improve all other skills – by learning and practising. If someone feels that he is not good at making decisions, the first thing he might have to do is to observe – to find out how others will react when it comes to a similar circumstance. The second step is to compare and contrast. By doing this, people can have a clear understanding of the strong points and the weakness in their decision-making process, so that they could make a progress. The key point of improving the decision-making skills lies in practice. Just like everything, decision-making skills could get strengthened only when we put them into reality. Provided we keep training ourselves in this way, we can all become wise and responsible decision-makers.

3. Do parents in China allow their children to make important decisions about the future?

这种“中国/你们国家现状”的问题其实是最好回答的，因为这样的现状一定是很复杂的，不能一概而论的。因此，考生完全可以根据自己的回答特征和优势有选择性地給出答案。

比如这个题目，可以说yes，当然也可以说no，当然更可以说两者兼而有之，具体怎么操作，可以看考生擅长往哪个方面发挥。并且，建议考生根据这种“in your country / in China”如何如何的题目，准备好一个框架，可以是it depends on…，或者it varies…，接着说因为各地的情况、各个阶层的情况都不一样，最后再详细讲自己看到的、自己了解到的情况是怎样的，这样的答案层次感也比较好。

Well, it’s unlikely to simply say yes or no to this question, since things differ enormously in different families. Some parents allow their children to make almost every decision about the future, from what major to choose, to what kind of person to marry. These are so-called “open-minded” or “enlightened” parents. They are also the popular ones. Children all dream of having this kind of parents and those who do have, are often very proud, confident and independent. However, there are some other parents, who act in a totally opposite way. They feel that they could not trust their children to make any decision, let alone important ones. They are overprotective parents, and without knowing it, they might even ruin their children’s life in the name of “love”. It’s actually very terrible. To me, one of the greatest jobs of a parent is to teach the children how to make decisions on their own, so that children can grow up as mature, responsible adults.

解题思路

首先做一个简短的介绍：

I’m not really that into clothes. I do try and look fairly smart but I’m not that bothered by my personal appearance and the clothes I’m wearing. But I will tell about my favourite article of clothing – my leather jacket. That is by some distance my favourite piece of clothing.

It’s a fairly normal or regular leather jacket. The one unusual feature I suppose is that it has white stripes down the sleeves. It’s also quite well-worn by now because I’ve had it some time and I tend to wear throughout the winter months. In fact it’s got quite a few little tears where it’s caught on sharp objects. I still love it though and I don’t mind at all that it looks rather second-hand.

I bought it at least 5 years ago now. It came from one of those big department stores and not a specialist leather shop. My old coat was very shabby and I was told by my girlfriend that I definitely needed to buy another one – I think she was embarrassed to be seen with me.

So I went out by myself. I think it must have been sometime in January when the New Year sales were on. My girlfriend wanted to come with me and help me choose something smart but I said I would do it by myself. We shop in very different ways. She always wants to try everything on and can spend hours buying nothing. My approach is quite different. If I see something that I like and it fits I buy it. She might be two hours in a shop while I normally only take 15 minutes.
