I often visit my hometown where my parents and other family members live whenever there are occasions or I get holidays. I would like to talk about my younger sister’s birthday celebration that I attended one year back. It was strictly a family celebration as no other relatives, neighbours were invited and only our family members celebrated this occasion.

Before the celebration, my mother and the younger sister asked me if I would be able to join the party or not. Since it was just the beginning of my semester, I had been able to manage time to attend the occasion.

The celebration took place at our house at 【…say your hometown name...】. This was a kind of family reunion and the occasion was my younger sister’s 16 the birthday. I was excited to join the celebration as all of my family members including the newborn of my eldest sister would also be there. It had not been able to visit my family for few months and that was a perfect opportunity to meet my family members and spend some enjoyable and quality times with them.

I was thinking to buy a digital camera to my younger sister and that was a perfect occasion to buy her the gift as I had the budget to purchase the camera. I bought it before I left home and my sister was very excited to have it as her birthday gift. Celebrations like birthdays are always important in our family as it allows us to get together and spend few days together. As two of my sisters were married and lived in two different cities, they also attend such occasions and we all enjoy our stay together. From this perspective, this was an important occasion for us.

1. How do young people and old people use mobile phones differently?

这个题目和往常第三部分的题目相比，并不能算是刁钻古怪的，甚至可以算是问得非常的平易近人。将老年人和年轻人进行比较，这是第三部分非常常见的问法。

首先强烈建议同学们在平时的学习当中就要准备好老年人和年轻人进行比较的相关框架和语料，然后再根据主题的不同往里面进行填充就可以了。具体说到使用手机的方面，老年人和年轻人的不同有很多。举例来讲，他们使用手机的目的是不一样的，频率肯定也是不一样的，他们喜欢的手机的型号品牌，甚至他们喜欢的手机的式样都是不一样的，并且他们愿意为使用手机投入的花费都不同。这些都可以讲。

但是不同的答案框架不同的组织形式会对我们带来得分的影响相对来讲分数要求并不能算很高或者说能力比较基础的同学，建议可以老老实实地去罗列一条一条的信息，按照first，second这样的形式展开，这样的回答其实已经很不错了，如果要求非常高的分数，那么建议在答案当中要做到有头有尾，做到很有逻辑性。整体答案给人呈现出来的感觉不只是在聊天，而是更像是演讲，甚至是辩论的时候去表达自己思想的一种形式，具体来说，可以去加上一些让步的成份，或者开头结尾加上总结性的句子都是可以的，大家可以参考今天的示范答案。

示范答案：

Young people and old people must use mobile phones very differently in more than one aspect. For example, how often do they use a mobile phone? What do they use a mobile phone for? What kinds of mobile phones do they prefer? All of these vary with the age of the mobile phone users. I think from the elderly’s perspective, mobiles phones are no more than an ordinary telecommunication tool, like telephones or telegraphs, only smaller, quicker and much more modernised. From what I’ve seen, the two main functions of mobile phones that appeal to elderly people are sending text messages and making phone calls. There are also extreme situations where elderly people repel using a mobile phone for the fear of radiation. However, things are much different regarding young people. Mobile phones are a complex of communication, entertainment and digital assistance. With a mobile phone, they can take photographs, keep daily agendas, send emails, play small games, watch videos, to name but a few. In one word, to the aged, mobile phones are more like a supplement whereas to the young, mobile phones are a major part, if not all, of their daily life.

2. What’s you attitude towards people using mobile phones in public places?

这个问题表面上来看，问的是个人的想法，个人的态度，但实际上在第三部分问到这样的问题，多多少少都会比较宏观一些。也就是说，从这个题目本身来讲，它问的是对于在公众场所用手机的人的看法，那这个和第一部分问个人最喜欢的颜色、最喜欢的手表等等，问题是完全不一样的，我们考生在回答当中最好要能够兼顾说到在公众场所用手机的人必须要注意的事情，以及在公众场所用手机可能会对他人造成一些什么样的影响。这样的答案就显得更加有深度一些。

具体到答案本身我们自己的态度可以是比较的容忍的，或者是觉得非常的反感，或者是持中立的态度，这样都是可以的。关键要能够解释清楚在公众场所用手机这个行为有哪些值得注意的地方。再举例：非常反感的原因是什么?可能是经常在公众场所遇到大声喧哗，大声用手机说话的人。持中立的态度原因是什么是?因为毕竟现在手机已经成了我们生活当中一个必不可少的部分，在公众场所用手机也成为了一件不可避免的事情。

For those very busy people, I think using mobile phones in public places is tolerable, provided that they keep their voice down and do not interrupt others in any way. I do believe that there are certain rules to obey when using mobile phones in public places. To be specific, some places, like theatres, doctors’ consulting rooms and college lecture rooms are definitely not suitable for the use of mobile phones. Also, it is much more courteous to switch the ring to silence. However, I can’t stand those people who talk loudly over a mobile phone in public places as if there is nobody else. It’s so rude.

1. Why do Chinese people like to travel abroad?

为什么中国人喜欢出国去旅游，这道题的原因可以有如下：

第一，shopping购物，尤其是买免税商品tax-free products，love to go shopping abroad，比如衣服outfits，包bags，化妆品cosmetics/make-up products等等，这些商品比在国内买便宜很多much cheaper than those in China，国内的税很高the sky-high luxury tax at home，价格贵expensive/steep price caused by heavy taxation，而且国外的产品常常会有打折discount，同时质量也很高in good quality，所以很多人喜欢出去购物，这里还可以给几个目前比较火的大家爱买的东西，比如很多人喜欢去日本买电饭煲buy rice cooker in Japan，去韩国买化妆品purchase cosmetics in Korea等等;

第二，中国的经济发展使得人们更有钱，可以承担得起出国旅行can afford a trip overseas，the economic development allows people to travel，中产阶级变多了the expanding middle-class，这些人在国内玩久了之后就希望可以有一些新鲜的东西去玩，国外很多地方对国内的人来说是陌生的，以前没去过there are a lot of places they have never been before，所以想要去探索want to explore;

第三，国外有很多著名的景点attraction/must-sees，例如Mount Fuji in Japan，Louvre in Paris等等，和中国的景点和风景差距很大different from those in China,所以中国人想要去看visit，对国人很有吸引力attract Chinese people;

第四，有部分人也觉得出国旅游代表着自己的身份地位to show that they are affluent enough to afford a trip abroad，可以发照片和视频post photos or videos，这样亲朋好友们都知道自己过得挺好，以后在和别人聊天的时候可以显示自己去过很多地方。

当然这道题可以有一些非常规的答案，例如现在比较流行的一些出国游趋势是因为大家有其他的需求，例如曾经很火的韩国整容团a boom in plastic surgery-related tourism，和考驾照旅游团getting a driver’s license in South Korea等等。

Many Chinese prefer to go shopping abroad. They are so fascinated with buying tax-free products in the foreign countries, like cosmetics, shoes, bags, and nice outfits. There are also a lot of discounts for those products overseas. In China, people often face they sky-high luxury taxes, which means that almost every product is much expensive than that in a foreign country. So a number of Chinese people would choose to buy these abroad. Besides, thanks to the expanding middle class and the economic development, people in China can actually afford a trip to another country. It is no longer unaffordable for a normal family. So that’s why Chinese like to travel abroad.

2. What can people benefit from international travel?

人们可以从出国旅游中获得什么好处，也就是说出国旅游给人们带来的益处是什么：

第一，可以认识不同的人和见识很多地方，get to know different people and places，学习如何和不同的人打交道learn how to interact and communicate with people who are different than we are，develop social skills/abilities，很多人在这一过程中去和别人分享想法和意见，从而获得更多的ideas and opinions;

第二，可以接触不同的文化，getting accustomed to different cultures，而且这种接触可以是educational的有教育意义的/enlightening有启发的，可以更好地认识这个世界deepens our understanding of the world，同时甚至可以更好地学习外语，a chance to practice local language/second language，而且有机会接触到各种slang俚语等当地人使用的spoken language，而不是written language;

第三，人们可以放松，休闲度假relaxation，减轻压力reduce stress and tension/remove stress，因为旅游可以带来愉悦bring joy to life，同时restore balance让生活工作平衡，恢复心情。

First, you can get to know different people and places. When travelling, people have the opportunity to meet different people from different places. All people have their own way of communicating, and not all ways are effective. Some people tend to have problems expressing themselves because their social abilities are not developed. Travelling and interacting with a variety of people can help build or improve social skills with very little effort. Besides, experiencing different cultures can also be enlightening and educational; many travelers look for places to visit whose cultures are different from their own. Learning about other’s lives and customs deepens our understanding of our world. It teaches us respect and is humbling in many cases.
