Describe an important plant in your country
You should say:
What it is
How you know it
What uses does it have
Why do you like it
Well, there are few plants just come to my mind right now, such as bamboo, wheat, and ginkgo. And I’m sure there are more important plants than what I know. Anyway, I would like to talk about the bamboo, which is one of the major food sources for panda bears in China.
China is the only original habitat of panda bears which relies on only bamboos in their natural environment,就是说中国是熊猫的故乡,而在野生环境下熊猫是靠竹子生存。 如何回答How you know it呢?
As far as how I learned about bamboo, I would say it needs to be traced back to my childhood when I was a little kid. 比如,妈妈给我讲过一些关于those cute panda bears的故事,我总能记得those cute creatures are always hugs a whole bunch of bamboo sticks and munching on them 【那些可爱东东总是抱着一大堆竹子并且啃个没完】。
接下来就谈论竹子的用途或者importance:Anyway, being a food source for panda bears is only one of the many importance. 【Bamboos are also pretty influential in Chinese culture, specifically Chinese paintings】,因为在国画【Chinese painting】中很多大师都以竹子为题材。
不过作为备考的重点,Part 2植物类话题的难点往往落在解释why this plant is important/ special上面,很多考生觉得植物的重要性或特殊性仅限于环保,其实考生可以think out of the box,植物其实far more important then you thought。
Paddy plant or rice plant is a very common plant which is grown in our country. The farmers of our country cultivate it and it is grown in most of the places in our country. If you go to a country-side in paddy season, you will find this plant is dancing with the wind. This plant grows well in fertile land and needs a good supply of water and sunlight. Rice is our chip food and we get rice from this paddy plant.
The paddy plant is a medium side plant which is thin and the leaves and body of this plant is green. Usually the rice seed is green in early states and becomes yellow when it is ripen. Our economy heavily depends on our rice production. Our environment, soil, water and fields are in favor of producing a large quantity of rice each year.
Since I live in a city now, I don't see these plants here but in my childhood whenever I went to visit our village, I found this plant in every fields. Mile after mile farmers have cultivated paddy plants and wish to get good quantity of rice. These paddy plants are beautiful and create a harmony with the wind if you hear closely. The dancing of this plant with the wind is something that would simply create a magical hallucination.
I also like it because this plant provides us rice which is our staple food. The taste and food value is good and it is our main crop. Every part of this plant has its usefulness. Our economy has a good dependency on the production of rice which we get from this plant. In our country this is probably the most important plant we grow.
Describe an interesting subject that you learnt in the school.
You should say:
What the subject was
What your teacher was like
How long you learnt this subject
and explain why you thought it was intersting
Describe a science that you are interested in.
I would like to talk about chemistry,a branch of physical science 【自然科学】 that studies the composition, structure, properties and change of matter 【物质】.
Chemistry is a compulsory course for third-year junior school students and for all senior high-school science students. I,of course, studied it since the last year in junior high school.
In high schools, most students are apt to learn chemistry by doing numerous quizzes, some even by rote 【死记硬背】.I,instead, took a unique approach. Before each class,I would get fully prepared;do my best to find the law【规律】of reaction among the atoms 【原子】,molecules【分子】 or chemicals bonds【化学键】 etc,and search relevant information online. Also,I watched videos of cutting-edge 【尖端的】 scientific discoveries and intriguing/compelling/scintillating 【有趣的】stories of the scientists mentioned in the chapter I was going to study. Apart from those,I engrossed myself in chemical experiments,as long as I was available.
In my first Chemistry class,I was fascinated by the structures, shapes, colors, and smells of chemicals my teacher showed to the class. Ever since then, my passion/zest【极大的兴趣】 for chemistry has been ignited. I very much wanted to delve into【钻研】,and unveil the myth of 【揭开神秘面纱】,Chemistry.
Ok then, well the subject I’d like to talk about is Economics, because it was one of the few classes that I actually enjoyed, and this was in no small part due to the fact that we had a really great teacher for it.
And as for what makes me say that, well first of all, he had a knack of being able to make all of his classes really interesting, and he did this by always asking us questions and getting us to think deeply about all kinds of things related to Economics. So for example, he would often start class by telling us a story that was in some way connected to what we would be going through that day, after which he would then ask us how we thought the story ended, and this really kind of helped arouse our curiosity in the subject.
So that’s one thing, and another thing I liked about him was the fact that he seemed to take a genuine interest in all of us, and I could see this in the way he spoke and listened, because you know, it’s pretty easy to tell whether or not a teacher really cares about teaching, and with him I could tell straight away that he enjoyed teaching us and had our best interests at heart.
But anyway, as for how long I studied Economics for, well basically, it was for two years during high school, so it wasn’t really for all that long, which was a bit of a pity, because as I mentioned earlier, I really enjoyed the classes. And one more thing to mention about them, which I don’t think I’ve said yet, is that we hardly ever went through the text book, which was such a refreshing change from all the other classes I had.
So instead, our teacher, who was called Mr. Guise, by the way, would give us things like newspaper clippings or magazine articles to read and discuss, and by doing this, we came to realize just how significant a role Economics played in our lives. So as you can imagine, this made the classes so much more fun than they otherwise would have been if we’d just ploughed through the text book, and I’m very grateful to Mr. Guise for this.
Describe something you made yourself.
You should say:
What you made.
Why you make it.
How you make it.
and explain how you felt about it.
I usually made toys in my childhood and sometimes I made some electronic devices in my teenage and those were very exciting for me. I felt overwhelmed whenever I had been able to make something that I aimed for. I would like to talk about the wooden boat I created in my childhood when I was 8 or 9 years old.
I saw a very nice looking boat in a toy store and had been fascinated to have it. But the price was too high for me and I did not ask my parents to buy it for me as I knew that it was very expensive.
A few days later after my 5th-grade final exam, I went to visit my grandfather’s house and planned to make a boat similar to the boat I saw in the store. The original boat that I saw was made of metal and plastic but I planned to make one using the board, wood. The plan came to my mind as the woods and boards were available in my grandfather’s house.
I started making the boat from my memory and found that I was making the wrong one and I won’t be able to make the boat that I planned. I made a sketch and then started building the parts. This time I was successful and I had been able to make a nice looking boat. Later I coloured it and wrote my name on it. This was a fascinating experience as it was the first time I made something from wood and board.
Before that, I mostly made toys from papers and after I made the boat, I showed it to everyone. I was very excited to have it and I was proud that I had been able to make it. I had this toy with me for one year or so this was a toy that inspired me to make some other toys that I made later on.
