Compare the advantage and disadvantage, choose three of the following item as media for communication information and give your preferred one, which you think the most effective. Cosmic books film radio Television Theater.

The progression of media is inevitable and undeniable. Today we use a variety of media for communicating information. In the following essay, I will discuss the pros and cons of TV, film and books as forms of public media

In the first instance, books are a useful way of communication information. A book is obviously conveniently portable. You can read book wherever you are and anything you want however, this form of communication information has some limitations.

Movies are very popular nowadays even though since early last century they have begun to flourish and served as a form of communication information. Films provide vivid pictures to audiences as a means of education. From movies we can learn much about place and its things that we are never able to visit. Films also improve our mental edification. Movies based upon novels help us to appreciate literature. However, every coin has two sides. Going to cinema entails extravagant cost and film audiences take no initiative. They make choice is limited.

I think among the three kinds of media, TV is the most effective medium for communication information. Firstly, TV is not only a convenient source of entertainment but also a comparatively cheap one. Secondly, TV also offers serious instructive programs. The most distant counties and strangest customs are brought right in your room. There are many arguments against TV. Flickering pictures are harmful to eyesight. Once people become addicted to TV, it will separate relationship among family members.

The above discussion brings us to a conclusion that TV, books, film has both positive and negative effects. What we should do is make sure that the positive ones are encouraged and negative ones are eliminated as far as possible.

Those who’ve been raising alarms about Facebook are right: Almost every minute that we spend on our smartphones and tablets and laptops, thumbing through favorite websites and scrolling through personalized feeds, we’re pointed toward foregone conclusions. We’re pressured to conform.

But unseen puppet masters on Mark Zuckerberg’s payroll aren’t to blame. We’re the real culprits. When it comes to elevating one perspective above all others and herding people into culturally andideologically inflexible tribes, nothing that Facebook does to us comes close to what we do to ourselves.

I’m talking about how we use social media in particular and the Internet in general — and how we let them use us. They’re not so much agents as accomplices, new tools for ancient impulses, part of “a long sequence of technological innovations that enable us to do what we want,” noted the social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, who wrote the 2012 best seller “The Righteous Mind,”when we spoke last week.

Topic : People think that the news media has influenced people's lives nowadays and it is a negative development. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

范文

For many people, news is a regular part of life. An issue in dispute is whether the massive influence of the news media on people's daily lives denotes a negative development. It is my view that news media does more good than harm to the society.

The news media provides people with much of the information they need on a timely basis, although there are claims that it reports on issues and events purposely 【only selecting those events that interest the audience】. Anecdotal evidence shows that people from all walks of life have the habit of collecting information regularly from the news media, including print, broadcast and Internet-based media. Information assists people in decision making. For example, the Free Trade Agreement reached by the Chinese government and its New Zealand counterpart might open up many opportunities to both countries. For any business person, either in New Zealand or in China, failing to recognize and capitalize on this impending change would cause a costly loss.

Meanwhile it should be recognized that the news media can sometimes save lives and reduce casualties. There is a lot of uncertainty about the surroundings, and people are susceptible to the damage caused by accidents, crimes and natural calamity. The news media conveys the firsthand information to concerned audiences and enable them to take corresponding actions right away. The authority can declare a state of emergency when it is necessary, organize evacuation and distribute aid to the needy areas. All these efforts count on the news media as the messenger.

Despite their significant and ongoing contribution to the society, the news media might sometimes be harmful to society. It is a convention that the news media exaggerates the magnitude of the real threat 【for example, the potential of a terrorism attack】, in order to draw the attention of the desired audiences and in pursuit of high audience ratings. It ends up with causing panic among the population. Meanwhile, the news media tends to emphasize some issues or events, which virtually have little relevance to people's daily lives, such as an occasional multiple vehicle accident, an affair that a celebrity is involved with, and the like. It distracts the audience from something that is much more noteworthy, for instance, poverty, environmental problems, to name but a few.

In summary, the role of news media as an information provider should be acknowledged. In case of emergency, it acts as a lifesaver. However, it is not to say that the news media can give people an overall view of the problems in society all the time.

News media have become influential to our lives, and some people think that is a negative development. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, the expanding influence of news media on the society has been a heated social issue in debate. Some believe this trend is negative because the media controls minds of the public. Personally, I partially agree with this view, and my reasons will be explored as below.

The most worrying aspect of new media is that it overwhelms people’s daily lives. Actually, our lives of today are news-oriented, because of the 24-hour nonstop news cycles on TV, radio and Internet. Under such news bombardment, the information overload takes place, which means people’s attentions and minds have to be glued to focusing on and interpreting endless news, comments, gossips and rumors, necessary and unnecessary, no matter where they are, in workplaces, schools, buses or homes. As a result, news media is a huge distraction, which makes people exhausted and reduces their concentration and energy on their tasks or families.

Another big concern of news media is about its roles in manipulating people’s thoughts. Psychologically speaking, watching news media is a strong process of washing brain, in which the personal judgments of individual viewers might be removed and replaced with the media-established ideas. For example, for the purpose of politics, many influential newspapers, TV programs and online websites disclose the foibles of privacy, and even deliberately fabricate false rumors, scandals to diminish some political candidates in an election. Obviously, the cheatings and lies on news media are detrimental to the social equity and democracy, because they keep voters from thinking freely and independently.

However, the positive impact news media bring to our lives can never be ignored. In fact, the exposure to these news and reports can give the audience valuable messages and suggestions in day-to-day life. For example, the information about forecasts of weather and traffic situations in rush hours on regional newspapers or radio channels can instruct local residents to make proper schedules, plans and routers for travelling outside. In addition, reports about pressing social problems like epidemics, natural disasters, violence and crimes in streets also help to arouse the public’s awareness of the importance of improving education and health care systems, as well as the necessity of saving environment.

In conclusion, the demerits caused by news media override its benefits for the public. Although it can provide useful and practical information to the audience, it influences people in more negative ways, including an unbalanced life due to addiction in news, as well as the misunderstanding about social issues.
