1.What is your favorite snack?

My favorite snack would have to be baozi. I think in English you would call them steamed buns or dumplings. They're delicious and best of all, they're cheap! They are served all over the place so you can pick a bag up on-the-go and you can get all sorts of different fillings. My personal favorite is pork with white cabbage.

2.What kind of snack is popular in your country?

China has a wide range of snacks, some savory and some sweet. I think they are very specific to our country and sometimes to the local region you are in. In Beijing the pastries from Daoxiangcun are very popular. They are eaten by locals, but are also bought as souvenirs by visitors.

3.When do you usually have snacks?

I tend to eat 3 main meals a day, but I also like to graze on snacks in between meals. I've gotten into the habit of having elevenses, which I picked up from a foreigner I used to work with. It usually involves a cup of tea or coffee, with a cake or some biscuits at around eleven AM.

4.What are the benefits of having a snack?

I find that snacks perform different roles depending on when I have them. A mid-morning snack is an excuse for a little break and can be a bit of a pick me up if I'm feeling sleepy. A snack in the afternoon keeps my hunger at bay and helps tide me over till dinner.

5.Who prefer snacks, men or women/ the young or the old?

I think women wouldn't like to admit it, but they probably snack more than men. It isn't necessarily always snacks that are bad for you, I think they also eat more fruit between meals. As for the young or old, I think young people must snack more, partly because there are more snacks aimed at young people, but also because I think young people eat more than old people in general.

雅思口语动物话题

I found there was a bat nest in my balcony recently, and one night I happened to see they flew across the patio under our apartment and hover in the sky. I was shocked, because it was dark outside but they knew exactly where to go without mistakes. Moreover, they went out only at night.

I thought bats are interesting not because they can fly in the dark since I know they are nocturnal animals. I always think the ability which aids bats fly and prey capture is their unusual eye-sight, like another nocturnal animal, owls. But the truth is because of their echolocation. Bat echolocation is a perceptual system where ultrasonic sounds are emitted specifically to produce echoes. By comparing the outgoing pulse with the returning echoes the brain and auditory nervous system can produce detailed images of the bat's surroundings. This allows bats to detect, localize and even classify their prey in complete darkness.

1. Why do old people today live longer than in the past?

The main reason people live long now than they did in the past is due to improvements in diet and health. Generally, the world has developed greatly over the last hundred years, so that now it is much easier to find healthy food and get access to medicine. Improvements in technology mean that many illnesses that used to be fatal can now be treated safely and cheaply. Other diseases that arise from poor sanitary conditions such as cholera are now extremely uncommon due to vast improvements in infrastructure and general quality of life.

2. Are the attitudes of young people today towards old people the same as they used to be, years ago?

For the most part, old people in China continue to be treated with respect and admiration. However, it can be argued that the rapidly changing nature of society means that some traditional values get ignored. Some people are so focused on the future and trying to make money that they forget their values. In the past families stayed together because it was difficult to travel away from home. This meant that old people were well-cared for. Nowadays many families are split up because it is so easy to move around the country, so it can be easy to neglect older relatives. Old people in general can often feel cut-off from modern China because it is changing so quickly.

3. What can young people learn from elderly people?

Elderly people have so much to offer young people in terms of their experience. Younger generations cannot understand their history and background without the knowledge of the people who came before them and actually lived through those events. Young people can learn about their cultural heritage from older people who may have a closer connection to traditional customs. Without this constant learning from older generations, many aspects of culture would be lost. Another thing that elderly people can teach the young is how to get by in life and make the most of their opportunities. They will have already gone through many of the same experiences young people will go through, and can give them advice based on their own experiences.

4. Do old people in China have opportunities to attend any forms of classes?

Nowadays in China there are some colleges that are exclusively for old people to attend. They exist to help them get an education if they didn’t have the opportunity to do so before. They also offer many practical course so older people can enjoy learning some new skills and use them to benefit other people. There are also many communities where older people can socialize and support each other. This allows them to make new friends who share the similar interests and remain active and enjoy their old age. It’s great that places like this exist because without them life might be very boring for some old people living alone.

You should say:

Part 3

Are there any differences between childhood friends and friends in adulthood?

Actually yes. First, a childhood friendship has innocence and there are easier ties to make with someone when you are younger. There are also easier ways to find things in common with another person when you are younger. When you’re older it’s kind of like having the safety net removed. Then, you can do something as a kid in a friendship and it’s either cute or brushed off. As an adult it’s a little harder because if something is misconstrued then even the most rational person can get upset.

Which do you think is better, to have a large group of friends or just a few close friends?

Definitely a few good friends. Less worry and problems to deal with. I believe in quality over quantity when it comes to close friends. I feel more comfortable hanging out with my small band of pals, and I know I can be myself and I trust them all implicitly.

Well, the way people make friends today is not much different from the way people used to. You meet someone and hang out with them and see if your personality clicks.

What do you think is the value of teaching history in school?

History always helps us to understand the present about a person, society or nation. For example, history of the Egyptian, Indian and Chinese civilizations gives us a good idea of how people lived, worked or fought in wars in the past and how the world has progressed over the centuries. Take a passion to study history you will discover that many countries have so many amazing secrets, stories and knowledge to offer. And the past can in some way help us to predict about the future.
