Describe an invention that changed the world

You should say:

What the invention was

What it can do

How popular it is

Why it is an important invention

Ok, let me talk about GPS, or more commonly referred to as the Global Positioning System, which I guess is the one creation that has greatly influenced the whole world. The mechanism【原理】 of GPS, I suppose, is based on time and the known position of specialized satellites【专用卫星】.

I must admit that I don't have a clue at all【毫无线索】 about the exact time when it’s created or the person who should be given credited for 【归功于】inventing GPS. But as far as I know, it has a history of quite some years. While originally a military project, GPS is now considered a dual-use technology【两用技术】, meaning it has significant military and civilian applications【军用和民用】.

Specifically, you see, it has become a widely deployed and useful tool【广泛利用的有用工具】 for so many purposes: commerce, scientific uses and more importantly, facilitating everyday activities【使日常活动更便利】 such as banking, mobile phone operations, and even the control of power grids【控制电网】. Take myself as an example, being a frequent traveler【经常旅行的人】, I simply can’t live without a GPS in my hand. Even if I’m in a middle of nowhere【偏远的地方】, GPS will quickly locate【定位】 me without the need of internet access【网络接入】, pointing out the best route for me.

Also, another great thing about it is the application in delivery of goods. GPS makes it possible for us to track our parcels 24/7【不间断的, 一直地】, knowing where exactly the parcel is and when it’s delivered to the place. This just can’t be more useful for online shoppers【线上购物者】.

Actually, this world-changing【改变世界的】 invention has tons of other applications that I may not be able to list them all【全部列举出来】. Just picture the world without GPS, then no one would deny the fact that it has made our life much easier than before.

You should say:

What the invention is

Who invented it

What changes it brought

I would like to pick the 'Light Bulb' as one such invention that has very positively influenced the human race.

This single invention of science has uplifted the human race towards prosperity and the modern world. Think about the world without any lights in the dark and we would have been no different than living in a cave. The great scientist Thomas Edison is credited to invent the light bulb and till then many improvements have been done to it.

The bulb is the main source of illumination and light at night time when the Sun is hiding at the opposite side of the world. We are so habituated with the electricity and light bulbs that we might wonder if it is a life-changing invention or not.

But think about living your life for few days without the bulbs and then you would realise the true importance of this single invention. Some may argue that fuel powered lighting system could have been alternative to it, but the reality is that that would have been too expensive and could not have been an easy source for lighting the houses,

Think about the other living beings other than human; they mostly get back to their living place in the evening and except some nocturnal animals and birds, most of them stay at their living place till the morning.

They rarely do anything at night and that's because they are afraid of the dark and have no vision to see at night. As the human, we could have some lighting system if we did not know how to illuminate the light bulb but that would not have been so widespread without the invention of the light bulb. Scientific inventions are interrelated and one invention or theory inspired and accelerates the invention of other important inventions.

The Light bulb is one such invention that has inspired the invention and research of other inventions. This is the single invention that has made us free from being active only at day time when the sun is there.

Where you bought the clothes

And what other people at the occasion thought of your clothes

The type of dress I wear on special occasions mostly depends on the occasion types and the custom of dresses people usually wears on those occasions. However, for the majority of these special occasions, I like to wear formal pants, shirts, suits and formal shoes.

I usually wear it to participate in any meeting, social pragmas like the wedding ceremony, birthday celebration, official a program arranged by a relative. Yes, this is a common dress that many other people wear on those sorts of occasions. But some people wear different dresses as well. The teenagers who attend social programs usually wear jeans and t-shirts but the adults mostly wear this dress.

This dress code is a safe one to wear. First of all this dress matches the weather all around the year in my country. Secondly, this is a dress which is safe to wear as people won’t criticise people who usually wear this dress on special occasions. This dress does not catch much attention and would give an impression that the person is rightly dressed.

1.Do you keep track of time usually?

I certainly do. I think it’s important for most people nowadays to be able to keep track of time because we are living in a such a fast paced world where, the faster you are at doing things, the more likely you are to be successful.

2.Can you describe yourself as a punctual person?

Well, at least I always try to be on time. But you know, living in a city where traffic jam is an unavoidable part of the daily life makes it difficult to be a punctual person. I wouldn’t want to use it as an excuse so I tend to set out earlier when I go to an appointment just in case.

3.Do you wear a watch?

I like wearing watches and I used to wear them. However, with changing times, I have stopped wearing one.

4.Do you think it is important for an individual to be on time?

I think it is quite of a relative question. So, it mostly depends on the situation. For example, if an individual is late for a meeting or a flight, the person is going to loose lot of things. However, for places like parties or travelling, being very time bound takes a lot of fun out of vacations. Also, if you know someone is waiting for you, one must try to be on time.

5.How do you feel when others are late?

If my entire plan depends on that person, I really don’t like people getting late. Also, being late does not mean skipping five or ten minutes, but beyond that, it really becomes annoying. Specially, in places like movies or a game, where you miss a part of it, if your partner is late. But, for the most part, if I have to not wait for a very long time, I don’t mind too much on people being late.

6.How often are you late?

For most part, I try to be on time, but surely I am not one of those who follow the dot rule. So, being on time for things like meeting up with friends I can be late by five or ten minutes. But, in formal situations like meetings or for flights, I am punctual enough not to cause any trouble.

7.Do you feel guilty when you are late?

Definitely yes, if the team had to wait for me, I do feel bad. But, yet again, it is all about the time they have to wait. For me, being late five minutes is not a big deal in informal situations. But, yes, in formal if I am even late by a minute, I feel a little low, because then there are many eyes looking on you.

8.What are some of the ways by which you think people can come on time?

Well, I believe being on time is just a matter of practice and attitude. So, if every time you are late for the small things that do not matter much, there are more chances that you are likely to be late when big things come up. Also, it is about attitude in a sense, that if you consider the even as important or for that matter the small things in your life important, there are less chances that you shall be late for it.
