连词与副词的区别

很多考生认为自己对高中词汇了然于胸，不屑于去背这些单词，但是往往在词性上混淆，尤其是在连词、副词、介词上的混淆。以下也是一个错误的句子：

Fast food is convenient, therefore it is preferred by people.

正确的版本如下：

Fast food is convenient, so it is preferred by people.

这里为什么therefore是错误的而so是对的呢?在很多人的印象里，so和therefore是一样的，是可以相互替换的。其实不然，两者的词性不一样，so是连词，而therefore是副词。正是因为therefore是副词，起不到关联的作用，所以原句犯了前文提及的run-on的错误，要改成so。那么如果一定要用therefore呢?下面这么写都是对的：

Fast food is convenient, and therefore / thus / hence / thereby / consequently it is preferred by people.

Fast food is convenient; therefore / thus / hence / thereby / consequently it is preferred by people.

可以看出，类似的，thus / hence / thereby / consequently也都是副词。其实英语中很多词都是副词，只不过很多人按中文意思来理解成连词。
